Veterans Week 2020
George Mason University celebrates and honors our veterans. Veterans Day commemorates veterans of all wars and is celebrated on November 11th. Mason's Reserve Officers' Training Corps program usually honors our Veterans with a luncheon on the Friday of Veterans Day. Due to safety issues on campus with Covid-19, we are unable to celebrate and honor our veterans in person. This year, Mason's Reserve Officers' Training Corps program, the Office of Military Services, and our newly launched Military, Veterans, & Families Initiative are proud to offer a variety of free events, pre-recorded messages of appreciation, and discounts for our Mason Veterans. We are also sharing other local and national FREE events for our veteran community to participate in.
At Mason, we aspire to serve our veterans with as much dedication and devotion as they have provided to our county. We hope all our Veterans have a wonderful Veterans Day and know that Mason celebrates you daily, not just today.

Local and Regional Veterans Day 2020 Discounts
Veterans and active-duty military can receive discounts and free meals at many restaurants in our region. Some include Applebee's, Bar Louie, Cracker Barrel, Mission BBQ, etc. There are also discounts at hair salons, fitness centers, and other retail stores. President Washington Honors Veterans
Virginia SBDC Network Veteran of the Year Award
Mr. Bill Hume, CEO of the Interactive Design Group (aka IDG) in Roanoke, VA was awarded the Veteran Small Business of the Year presented by the Virginia Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Network. He was recognized for his service in the Air Force and Air Force Reserves; his achievements in business that include developing the Total Cemetery Management System for Arlington National Cemetery; and his contributions to Wounded Warriors, Heroes on Track and Virginia’s Veteran Parade. The Virginia SBDC Network is led by George Mason University in partnership with the US SBA and local host organizations. The award presentation was hosted by the Roanoke Regional SBDC, one of 26 SBDCs across Virginia.
